So my buddy is having issues with his computer. Randomly in games, like 7 days to die, PUBG, R6 Siege, but not CSGO i think, the screen goes black, and the GPU
fans start spinning at max speed, and everything else seems to stay exactly the same. Occasionally he says the audio goes out too, but there have been instances
where the screen goes black and the audio does stay.

He's using GPU Tweaker downloaded from the drivers and Core Temp to monitor the temperatures, and everything seems good. Says CPU/cores don't go above 50 and same for the GPU.

CPU: i7-6700
GPU: asus dual geforce gtx oc 1060 6gb
PSU: 750w thermaltake, modular
RAM: crucial ballistix 16gb ddr4
Motherboard: Asus Prime b250m-a

Pretty freshly built computer. Worked the first night no problems he said, and the second day started running into these black screen problems, and it's gotten progressively worse.

CPU cooler is seated fine with arctic fox thermal paste
Double checked the PSU cords to board, cpu, gpu etc.
GPU has been taken out and put back in a few different times to check for proper seating
GPU drivers all current

Not sure what else to add here. Hopefully someone can help, even willing to offer FG. ty

First thing we need to see is your temperatures.

Get SPECCY here: http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download
...get the FREE version from the: Piriform Link
...Speccy is a really nice system hardware/temperature, information Utility.
...simply install it...and run the program...then post a screen shot of the main page of the program, when posting a problem/question on these forums.

I'm the guy JabbyG posted the topic for.

After all the initial problems, we tried to use the drivers directly from the website instead of what came with the GPU in the CD; this worked and allowed me to play for a couple of hours so we assumed the problem was fixed.
When I played the next time I got about four hours in and the same problem continued with the black screen and loud fans whereas everything else seemed to remain unaffected (sound, LEDS, power, apparently my character was still in-game as well). I restarted the comp and it repeated the problem within 10 minutes of playing.
I tried again later and JabbyG suggested I clear the windows temp folder which I did and it allowed me to play for a solid four to five hours. I monitored the GPU temp the entire time while running 7DTD and it stayed at roughly 55° while hovering no lower than 52° and no higher than 58°.
After deleting the temp files it did not crash but I manually shut everything down when I went to sleep so I'm not sure if the problem would have persisted if it was 6 hours as opposed to 4 or 5.

Let us know the make and model of your power supply, and I recommend you so a fresh vid card driver install, using the following directions...

DDU Instructions - Nvidia
1. Get this program, here: https://www.wagnardsoft.com/ ...get the latest version, and save it to your desktop.
2. Get your vid card driver here, use the Manual Search: http://www.geforce.com/drivers ...save this to your desktop.
3. Run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) choose the "Highly Recommend Option", and just do what it tells you. If it wants to go into "Safe Mode", let it.
4. After it's done and comp has rebooted to normal mode, just double click the Nvidia driver to install. If it want's to reboot, let it.

^ that, use ddu to completely remove the previous driver version
never use CD that it comes with cuz it's always outdated like optical drives, always use the website for latest drivers in the future.

Then do this... ^

/e W/e GPU tweaker is, stop using it.

The program you want for setting fan curves, etc. is MSI Afterburner. <--- free

Did everything you suggested. No crashes as of now but last time it ran 7 days for a couple hours before it eventually crashed again. Fingers crossed for the time being if there is nothing else that can be done.

Appreciate the help.
