after going to 2560x1440 resolution obviously dip in performance

stock, overwatch was getting avg 57fps, maxing at 63fps, but would dip down to 45fps sometimes and felt slow
overclocked to 1100MHz core, 1580MHz memory, voltage +30mv

for some reason FPS went up more than the OC % in overwatch, went to avg 68fps, maxing at 75fps, and never dips below 60fps (oddly non-OC dipped much lower)

main thing is it's much smoother, today i forgot to turn on MSI afterburner & was wondering why my game felt laggy
other weird thing i noticed a voltage sweetspot, any voltage at +50mv or more, even if i don't touch the clock, will reduce performance

I overclock every CPU amd GPU I have ever had. Not one of them has ever had an early death.


I still have an old 2700k from 2012 that has been overclocked to 4.6 ghz its whole life and its still running strong in my second PC

I run my i7-2600k permanently undervolted and overclocked. Been 100% stable since 2012. Probably will boost the clock and voltage a touch soon — but I need to get more RAM, currently have 12GB. Cost of 2x 8GB sticks seems not worth it tho, idk how long my system will stay useful.

Decided to OC my i7 2600k to 4.7GHz. Might bring it down a touch, not noticing any benefits really for my purposes. CPUMark score is 11400.

im glad it finally took amd half a decade to catch up to an oc i7 2600k. cz on 4.7 that's pretty damn nice.

Moved it down to 4.6.

Trying to do step overclock. I think I can do up to 4.9 stable with constant voltage, but with variable voltage I'm seeing if 4.6 will be stable.

I really liked my old AMD Phenom X4 955. It overclocked really nice. But I had the upgrade-itis bug back then, and the i7 2600k was a crazy value processor.

Now I'm saving for more important things. But when I do upgrade, I want my SSD to be at least 5x faster than my current one (2500 megabytes per second would be good read/write), and I want at least 12 physical cores with 64GB of RAM. So I'll hold off for another 5+ years to upgrade probably.

ye, i7 2600k is legendary, after i bought my i7 2600 from ebay, i still get tons of email alerts from them, daily, thousands. such a great chip and will prob still be used for the next decade tbh

i really want to do colocation w/ a used $80 i7 2600 from ebay, on a server. however, colocation hosting is expensive af (from what i've found online)

Benefit of that server type? Sounds like a 2600 would be a good budget, tho newer stuff has cores for days depending on use (esp if doing virtual machines). Idk much about that tho.

Not sure if I should keep my processor permanent 4.8, or keep it variable up to 4.6. Still need to do more testing for stability.

Benefit of permanent high clock is it’s easier to determine stability; downside is it’s inefficient, and potentially could wear down faster.

Benefit of variable clock is it’s better on power usage, potentially easier on the processor. Downside is it is more prone to being unstable, might end up with a crash once in 6 months randomly after thinking stability is fine, and temperature fluctuation can be quite wild since clocks go from low to high (potential for wear due to fast temp changes).

Brought the GPU up to 1130 core, 1610 memory, +40 mvolt. Pushing my luck on that. Really good on performance increase, but might back it down to 1100 core 1590 memory + 30 mvolt, just to avoid being an idiot.
