I have a Marantz PM-6004 amplifier. It handles 2 channels. I have 2x Kef Q300 speakers.

My dad got rid of his setup, but kept his Kef Q700 tower speakers (he set them up as music speakers with a Sonos wireless amp receiver). This leaves in storage currently:
- 1x Kef Q600c center speaker
- 1x Kef Q400b subwoofer
- 2x Kef Q100 bookshelf speakers

I am considering taking over the speakers in storage so I can have a 5.1 setup. The Kef Q100's aren't exciting, but the Kef Q600c is. I've been trying to resell these things on Craigslist, but it's tough to get rid of anything other than tower speakers (which I convinced my dad to keep).

Question:

These speakers THRIVE on proper power.
At least 45W per Q300, a little less for the Q100's, and closer to 60W for the Q600c. My only reference for power is that 45W per channel on my Marantz PM-6004, I don't know the actual sweetspot for channel power for these speakers.
I'd like to keep my Marantz PM-6004, and power the center and rear speakers separately for a 5.1 setup.
Is there any sort of 'modular' sort of way to set up audio amplification, without breaking the bank?

Dis is the guy you want. He's usually on in the early morning, East Coast time.

If you're looking for good amplification, maybe look at the Marantz SR5012 for the main zone (the 5.1), and run RCA preouts to that PM-6004 to power a couple speakers in another room.

What I would look for is manufacturer refurb receiver from either Marantz / Denon / Yamaha that has all the features you will need as they come with full warranty and they will run all your channels, A4L is trusted seller for refurbs: https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/category/avreceiver/home-audio/receivers-amps/home-theater-receivers/1.html You could also buy new unit, but refurbs will save you a lot money or allow to buy higher end model instead of lower end model.

If you wanted to use your existing amp you would either need a preamp with amp(s) for other channels or receiver with pre-outs, receivers with pre-outs are generally only on high end models. I personally how ever dont see any point making things more complicated than they are needed to be. Just get a receiver and run your 5.1 setup with it and save the PM-6004 for 2 channel setup in another room or sell it. I would look for mid to high end model so you know the receiver can provide the actual power promised. As for power ratings, any mid to high end model receiver will have enough power to run your speakers if your room isnt huge and you are not looking for ear bleeding volume levels.

If you are with budget I would not even consider going for preamp with amp(s) as the price tag will get higher than with receiver that will do the job just as well.
