was looking at upgrading / getting a second monitor. AFAIK, my current monitor is 60 hz / 1080p (if it matters at all)

choosing between 144 hz / 1440 p, which would be better for me? currently playing overwatch / have a gtx 970.
about how much of a price difference is there between a 144 hz / 1080p vs 144 hz / 1440 p?
how long usually does a monitor last? i dont plan on upgrading my computer for a few years so I am trying to see if its worth it for me to just throw some extra money and just buy a better monitor
anything else i should look for when purchasing a monitor?

If i then use dual monitors (my old monitor + new one), will my old monitor restrict any settings on my new monitor? ie cap at 1080p or 60 hz?

A GTX 970 isn't gonna push a 144Hz/1440p monitor at decent frame rates.

Thats what i thought i found from googling. Would it be better than to just go to 144 hz or a 1440 p? or if monitors last long enough buy a 1440 p / 144hz and eventually upgrade computer?

this also depends on monitor size.

if you want to stay 24" then a 144hz 1080p may be just fine.

most likely if you go 1440p you'll get a 27".

I guess if you want to be truely sure then get a 27" 1440p. monitors are meant to last quite a while. I still have a monitor that's 10 years old that im using daily. It did go dimmer though over time. I barely knew it got much dimmer until I got a new monitor and had it side by side. but w/e I'm used to it I have always liked the monitor it was truly great for it's time it even had buttons that you can't actually push it's got like a sensor so you just put your finger near it to turn it on and operate the other 'buttons' as well.

If you play a lot of first person shooters, then you would probably want a 144Hz.

I guess it's better for you to tell us what you intend to use the monitor for.

yea right now ive been mainly playing overwatch so probably go with 144 hz then. any other things to look for in a monitor?

Get one from a decent monitor company. IPS panels have a better viewing angle, TN panels are a bit cheaper.

Some good monitor companies: ASUS, ACER, DELL, some LG, BenQ

go 1080p 144hz tn for gaming imo
