Computer works fine until I put in any of the three ram sticks. The pc fires up, but nothing happens, the screen just stays black. I had extra ram laying around, so I installed it and everything's WAT, but I'm curious as to what's causing this. Is it likely simply bad sticks I wonder?

p.s ram is too damn expensive now adays 😞

Am I to understand you're trying to ADD more RAM to the RAM you already have?

/e I'm trying to figure out why you say three sticks? There is usually 2 or 4 sticks, depending on what RAM kit you got.

It might help if you list the RAM in question and the motherboard.

Well, first you need to make sure the "extra ram laying around" are all compatible and the same speeds etc.
Second, not as Ghot mentioned not sure why you're trying to use three sticks, you should stick to 2 or 4 sticks and make sure they are in the correct DIMM slots if only using 2.

Are you getting any kind of errors or beeps from the mobo when trying to boot it with RAM installed, or it doesn't even POST or anything? As Ghot already said post the RAM and Mobo for extra clarification.
