Anyone here familiar with HP procurve layer 3 switches? Need to pick your brain on routing questions.

Even if you know cisco switch layer 3 routing is basically the same thing, could use your help as well.

Have everything working fine, but I want a backup/failover default gateway. So if the oringal default gateway goes down / is not reachable it will use a secondary default gateway that is set. I cannot for the life of me figure this out or get it to work. Please note the gateway is NOT directly connected so I can't simply throw it in the routing table which is what makes this hard....

I could of simply added a second route, and when the first one went down it would of been removed from the table, and the second one would of took over. However all the packets route to a virtual machine, so physically the network cable is connected to a VM host which has multiple VM's on it. So this would not work because the actual physical interface to the switch is still UP even though the VM might be down.

Anyway... basically need to know if there is anyway for an HP Procurve layer 3 switch to know default gateway is unreachable, and if so than use a secondary backup gateway. Am I overlooking a simple way to achieve this? Thanks!

This help?

Unfortunately, CLI commands in L3 switches is not my forte, so I'm not the best to provide direct help other than Google searches.
