I'm interested in streaming TV channels, so I can watch them. I don't want to buy any hardware.
My computer is already hooked to my TV via HDMI. I currently watch one of the 1200 movies on my HDD on TV when nothing good is on TV.

I've been reading about streaming IPTV and watching tubes about KODI. I think I understand about the repositories. I assume I can watch it on my TV the same way I watch my HDD's movies now.

1200 movies? how small are the files? like compressed to 480p as well as other shrinkage settings?

Like 2-3GB each.

For your needs, I don't see any reason for the paid version of Plex.

My friend uses Kodi for that exact use, so it most certainly is capable of doing what you ask. From what I've heard and seen, it requires quite a bit of tinkering but offers broad customization options.

If ur computer is hdmi connected why do u need any software???

Just download or stream ur shit.

If you want something remotely, go with Plex.


If u don't want to download anything or keep with update shit. Go with Kodi.

I don't need or want remote access. But I don't want to necessarily spend a half an hour scraping the internet every time I want to watch something.

Yes Kodi has add-ons for it but ur going to spend awhile finding ones that work then when they get taken down gotta find another one that works. Atless my experience with Kodi. Also u can't pick resolutions ethier some cam, 480, 720, 1080. Also they been cracking down more on kodi. Biggest recent I moved from Kodi is they cracking down on it hard

Well, I assumed that some would die out or get taken down, etc. As for resolution...I'm old, I was raised on crappy resolution.
