Hello, my bro and I are looking to buy our old man a lap top for Christmas. He doesn't do much except web browsing and all that shit. He doesn't play any games except maybe solitare.

Our budget is 600 dollars. Basically something that will last for a long time. The one he has is from 2012 and it's slow as fuck. Any recommendations are much appreciated!

Many thanks

2012?? I am still on windows vista and works just fine. Use firefox for browsing to see if that speeds things up. Sams and Costco will get you something decent for 600 that should be good for 5yrs of web browsing.

I appreciate the assistance on Firefox, but the computer is just terrible lol. So Costco? I would like to use Amazon if possible.

Costco does a reasonable job of filtering out the crap such that things don't break prematurely. Check out their selection and then order the same model from Amazon.

How do they manage? I don't want it to slow down after like a year of use, if that makes sense.

I want something that will last like 4 years and not be super slow.

They are on solid state drives(as they call them, usually a bit slower flash memory if i'm not mistaken) and there isn't a whole lot to install to them so they should hold up pretty well.

It's more of an out with the old in with the new kinda deal. My brother is in IT and just said it's a piece of shit lol, and he's not wrong I can vouch.

I think we are looking for a new laptop at this point
