So I've had an issue with a brand new laptop.

The charging light, when the AC-adapter is plugged in is flashing white/amber.

I'm running it solely on the AC-adapter at the moment and got into F2-setup screen, and under Battery Information what I get is (other than battery @ 00%) is:

Idle
Health: Communication Error
AC Adapter = 130W

I'm hoping this is as straightforward as it would seem?

PC works perfectly fine off of the AC-Adapter itself.

Dell Latitude E6420.

Thank you, appreciate all the help you gentlemen give.

Try draining the laptop for its residual power.
Power off the laptop -> Remove AC, battery and all externally connected devices (jack, USB, etc.) -> Hold the power button down for 15 seconds -> Reconnect AC and battery -> Check if it's fixed.
If it isn't, try loading "Optimized Defaults" from the F2 BIOS menu.

IIRC that series had battery detection issues, like the Folio and 800 Elite series from HP, which was addressed in a BIOS update. The latest BIOS version is from May 23rd 2017 and is flagged as urgent, so could be worth a shot to update it.

Well unfortunately I could not update the BIOS because it requires a 10% charge on the battery.
I have a new battery being sent hopefully very soon from the company that I bought the laptop from.

I tried the other ideas you presented to no avail unfortunately.

The BIOS does indeed need to be severely updated, but it'll have to wait.

I appreciate all the help good sir.
