I called charter spectrum , Comcast...
I wanted to order a self install kit...
( my grandma is old school)
She only watches the news via antenna .
The only way to get internet is withought her knowing.

Obviously she never leaves the house
Can't have a internet associate ringing the door bell...

So I asked charter if I could get a self install kit since I have a coax cable that goes from my room to a pole outside the house?

They ask, have you had service with us before? I said yes back in 2013 about 5 years ago. They said they would have to send a technician over to come (inside) the house to activate the line ???
--

So.. Is the self install kit legit??
Stores like bestbuy sell these kits...
You can even get it from the isp website...

So I should be able to just plug a Ethernet cable between the computer and modem , and the coax cable goes straight from the modem to the pole , why does a guy have to come inside to activate the line???

Are they just lieing to me , or do they just not know what they are talking about?

I would be better off building a better relationship with the neighbors lol , and asking them for wifi password.

I would like to try this self install kit, maybe I should work for them, so I can do it myself haha

The reason they need to come to your house is that Comcast shuts off the service at the pole, rather than at the office.

I would suggest getting another relative to take grandma ...out ...for dinner or something, when the Comcast guy needs to come.

/e You can hook up the gear yourself. But they need a technician to come and rehook the cable on the "pole end".
Another reason it is good to have the tech come, is that they will hook everything up, and run line tests on all the cables and gear as well.

She's gonna KNOW anyways, simply because the settop box needs to be in range of the remote. Not to mention all the lights on the router.

She'll also definitely get suspicious, when the TV gets words on it, everytime they have to up date the router software or similar. Words telling her to call Comcast.

Maybe try both. Have relative take her out shopping or to lunch, then when she gets home...show her all the wonderful channels and built in TV guide etc.

I am like fairly sure the coax cable from my room to the pole outside may have been for dish tv in the last 2 years.
so in other words ill try asking dish if they have a self install kit. all coax cables should be the same, performance doesn't matter.
I just need wifi for my tv/phone.

Since she already has a phone service i can't just get DSL... she would know instantly.

Curse T-mobile and their 10GB mobile hotspot limit...
I can use the mobile date on my phone and screen mirror to the tv unlimited 4g lte, but then i can't really text and do other shit on my phone .
Does anyone know a good phone app that I could probably " trick " a duel screen mode or something? to have like The Hulu app on a fake phone screen to mirror to the tv?

Just brain storming possible ideas/methods.

I may have to just survive until march when i finally buy my own house...

I've installed comcast without ever calling them, OR having anyone come to my home.
As long as the home was wired for it.

PS T-Mobile offers unlimited hotspot for $25(Extra) a month if you have T-Mobile ONE

I have Tomobile one, which allows 512KB unlimited hotspot
i upgraded to tmobile one PLUS , for 10$ more, which gives you voice mail text messages, and gives 10gb Hotspot, then unlimited 512KB.
you are saying there is even something better? <3
