The hard drive in my laptop went out and I don't have my windows 8 disc to put into the cd drive and boot the cd rom to install windows after I get a new ssd. I don't have another computer or else I would download windows 8 and put it on a USB or a ISO file and put it on a disc.

I have the product key for windows 8 I just need to find a way to install it back on the ssd.

I assume you can buy one with the iso pre-loaded on it.
Never done it tho, make my own drives

Prob would cost $5-$10 to get from whatever site offers it

Maybe someone on jsp lives by you and is willing to stop by?
If not, go to library or something nearby and download/mount win 8.1 to USB :) can also go to any school near you. Just walk right in lol

@edit not sure, I'd do what I said above.

Considering the library has a 100 Mbps connection that sounds like a good idea

Why windows 8.1 is that what they all are called? The sticker on the laptop just says windows 8

Download iso from msft website
Download Rufus (select iso and hit start)
Boom done :)

@ edit, well whatever it is then, make sure you get the right one. X86 vs x64. 86 is 32 bit, and 64 is 64

I read somewhere some bios' won't let you use a any old disc that you install windows on. You might have to use an actual windows disc or a recovery disc that came with the laptop

And also will the laptop have to be connected to wifi for the product key to be verified. I don't have internet in my house yet but I will soon. I don't want to do all this and then get to the part where you put in the product key and not be able to get it verified
