Looking to buy a laptop to replace my old piece of overheating crap lol. Budget is about a grand I guess. Should I be looking for a specific brand? Apple vS PC? Build my own? Lol help

Depends on what you will be using it for. Toms hardware is a great tech site with lists of laptops for every type of person, do some research on there. They have a lot of knowledgable pc enthusiasts and experts who really know what they are talking about. It all rides on what you will be using it for, I highly recommend going with pc as opposed to apple, apple is extremely over priced and there is no real reason to buy one. What you can get for 1,000 dollars in a laptop is amazing now a days.

Asus is an amazing company, do some research into those.

With your new lap top find a way to have it raised off the desk several inches, with an external fan blowing air under it

This will probably prevent any laptops from over heating in the future.

Maybe adding years to the lifespan.
