so i was making a partition on a drive that has around 2 tb of data stored. i was already 8 days into it and at 93% , just 1 more day and the power just went out a few min ago. and now it shows the drive is not available to view and the partition which had 2tb of data, is now listed as "unformatted" in easeus.... so i basically lost EVERYTHING because of a power outage...

any way to recover the data? and did i just get screwed...?

luckily it was my 2nd hdd, and not my main, but it looks like all the data is gone? there has to be some way to recover it?

You could try Recuva

testdisk

if you can't rebuild it then rip data unless you plan on spending 1k+ to recover it.

yea im running that now. it seems many forums suggest to use it. it seems to run super slow.... like 2 units per second and theres a total of 486400 units. so ive been running it for a few minutes and its only done 700/486400

if it doesnt work then ill try the recuva :[

so ive looked up the settings and such to choose from when using it, but not sure what to choose when i get the these parts :

for the partition table type i chose "EFI GPT" because it was what was shown that has been detected. i assume thats okay?

what thing should i choose in the options between "primary, logical, extended, or deleted" ?
its my secondary hdd. i am assuming i should choose "logical"?

thanks

edit:
also, so once the analyse cylinder task is completed in testdisk, and assuming it recovers the data, what step do i take to finalize the recovered data? like to agree to recover it or something?

derp me. ok thanks!

not exactly sure when or why to do a deeper search? if i notice certain files are not shown, then do it? but i doubt ill be able to notice any missing files, since its around 2tb of data...

so i should probably just do a deeper search regardless?

also, i read up on the logical versus primary partition type, and still not sure which to choose?
i read this but makes no sense lol : http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/Partition_recognition_primary_and_logical

so after this scan finishes in like 2 days... lawl if i cant recover anything from it, ill then try recuva, and if that does not work then i will try this

https://www.powerdatarecovery.com/lost-partition-recovery.html

https://www.powerdatarecovery.com/damaged-partition-recovery.html

i think these are all for free. and i dont want to pay for anything that may not even work.

edit:

So i do still see the partition in computer management, but it is empty and should have data. I am wondering if i just assign a letter to it like the below says, then it may show the data? i dont think it works like that though?

also i see from this site it says , https://www.datanumen.com/blogs/7-dos-donts-hard-drive-partition-disappears/
"1. Check Disk Management

Now that partition disappearing can come from two situations, you have to verify which case yours is. Thus, you need to check disk management on your PC firstly. On Windows, you can go to “Control Panel” > “Administrative Tools” > “Computer Management”. Then, in the “Computer Management” dialog box, open the “Disk Management”. Next in the central screen, you can check if the partition is there or not.

If the partition is there but without a drive letter: Just reassign a drive letter to it.
If the partition is not there: You are suffering partition loss. Now move on to the following dos and don’ts."\

so i found the data using testdisk... but i can only seem to copy it to my C: \ drive....

i want to be able to copy the found data to the drive it originated on, which is another drive. but i cant choose another drive? not sure how to find it, ive gone all the way back with the arrow keys but my other drive is not listed. although i was able to select the drive in order to choose to scan it in the first place...

well then im fked. cause i only have these 2 hdds. and one is my main 1tb, and the other is one i am trying to recover the data from and it is a 4tb hdd.

can i somehow copy an image that is super compressed and store it on my 1 tb hdd? i have around 600 gb free. and then use that super compressed image to restore the full data on my 4tb hdd?
