his CPU is over heating to 90 degree. What may be causing this? could it just be the old cooler? or is too much thermal paste a possibility?

also his RAM is showing only 2.2 available of 8gb and I was thinking they are just in the wrong slots?

Thats the other thing, he could only install 32 bit OS because of the problem with the ram. is that screwing with the CPU then?

32bit windows limits your max ram to 4gb

if he has a built in gpu, then it might be whats taking the rest of it.

am i wrong? im trying to figure this out on my own with very little experience in building. I just built mine a few weeks ago and runs fine

64 bit OS only needs a compatible cpu.
It will use more then 2.7gb of ram but having less won't effect using it.



yes unless user error implies everything.
defective cpu, votage settings/overclocking software, bad mobo.. to name a few.
