so my uncle bought this bullshit iHome wireless mouse, as soon as he plugged in the usb receiver it instantly powers off the computer, it crashed it and ruined it, the computer's internet does not work right anymore idk what the deal is with it i reset all the ports and etc... i did everything you can to reset the connection, there is nothing wrong with the actual modem or router or anything and everything else that connects to it is fine. but after plugging in that receiver it powered off the computer instantly, and i tried it again, same thing, then i tried it in another computer, one i didnt care about, bam instant power off.

anyone ever experience this? ive never seen anything like it and i want to know if its common, i googled it and couldnt find anyone with the exact same problem, could it be just some faulty receiver that ruins computers? its so fucking strange i just dont know what to do, kinda want to take it back to the store and ask them to plug it into their computer and when it wrecks theirs too give them the receipt for the new computer he just bought and ask to be compensated, because that ended up being the solution, having to buy a new computer, dont get me wrong, the computer i was using was old, and i only had him buy a 500 buck replacement, so not asking for the world, not trying to get a gaming system or anything just something we can keep doing the bills on in his shop.

anyway has anyone else ever seen anything like this?

Lol, could work though. Buddy had this issue when he plugged into a certain usb Port. Not sure which fixed it as he did both.

No, there is a short, extensive testing has now been done, instantly powers off in any usb port in the computer and we took it to the store and are trying to get them to pay for the new computer since it jacked his perfectly fine working machine up, showed them what it does to his computer and then had them test it in their own, now trying to talk with corporate to see what we can work out, will be a drawn out process but hopefully they will pay 👍

this is totally unrelated but this reminded me of a time when there was a really close lightning strike and the lights flickered + my pc made the usb device disconnected sound causing me to lose my kb/mouse for a few seconds before it saw them again (they are both wired).

I found it quite interesting that the EMP was strong enough to shut down the USB ports but not the entire system, and also that they came back online so quickly without me having to do any troubleshooting, and that there was no long term damage. Consumer electronics are surprisingly resilient.

USB is easily fucked with.

When my minifridge shuts off, it was disconnecting my USB Dac sporadically.. Even through a UPS/Surge protector. USB hub with its own power source solves those types of issues though.
