Consensus - A laptop that is a few years old, and starting to run slow and occasionally Internet goes offline (Just on the laptop, but the modem is fine)

Wondering if there is a few tips to speed up the functionality of the laptop, including streaming, videos, web browsing etc.

And does anyone know why my laptop's internet at times just cuts out until I reset my laptop then it's fine again?

Thank you guys ^_^

Well, besides the fact that Microsoft is trying very hard to piss anyone off, that still runs Win 7 or 8.1...

You can set up your Services properly: http://www.blackviper.com/service-configurations/black-vipers-windows-7-service-pack-1-service-configurations/

You can use the free program CCleaner once a day.

You can blow all the dust out of that laptop with "canned air" or an oil-less air compressor.

You can also do this...

Get SPECCY here: http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download
...get the FREE version from the: Piriform Link
...Speccy is a really nice system hardware/temperature, information Utility.
...simply install it...and run the program...then post a screen shot of the main page of the program, when posting a problem/question on these forums.

aside from the physical upgrades to increase speed

windows 7 is a resource whore..
try updating the drivers to the network adapter.
Open Control Panel > Device Manager > Network Adapters > Open Your Wireless LAN Card properties > Click on Power Management tab..the option that is given to turn off the device to save power might be checked. So uncheck that.

Well chkdsk once every 6 months or so. Defrag (HDD) about once a month.

I was implying ccleaner everyday is excessive just as defrag/chkdsk everyday is excessive.

A small update

Downloaded and ran CCleaner, and began with a full file scan and then moved onto the registry check, around like 5,000 ish files that were deleted.

Then proceeded to unstall programs I haven't used in ages.

Noticed on Youtube that video's are loading quicker without any buffer (In HD) and a general speed increase in the laptop.

Now for my windows 7, is there a way to update it? and should I?

And anything else is recommended for better functionality? And should I download a specific anti-virus scanner or malware?
I used Avast & Glary Utilities but I find them non helpful.

Thanks for all the help <3

Bitdefender Antivirus (free)

...and do your services...

[Setting up your Services]

Go here:
http://www.blackviper.com/service-configurations/black-vipers-windows-7-service-pack-1-service-configurations/

You can open the Services window, on YOUR computer, by typing: services.msc ...in the START > Search box.
Set up your windows services as shown in the SAFE column, at Black Viper's Website.
