Would any old computer power cord work or does it need a specific one

Most probably any would work.

It would help though if we knew the make/model of said "tower".


Or if it's NOT a pre-built, then make/model of power supply.

Unless you have a weird PC with a proprietary power cable.. They're all the same. If it fits, it sits will work.
