So, I'm a noob since I haven't updated my hardware knowledge in well over 7years++

I want to know what's the best shit right now (1 being the best, 10 being the worst, but still good enough for gaming/rendering/working with video editing/3d animation etc)
Popular product / comparable counterpart

Laptop

Same as above?

Haven't decided what to aim for laptop or desktop.
Have passed maybe 1year since I last tried to decide.
I was then thinking about MSI laptop but seems too clumsy and pricy for its prestanda and performance.
Saw a topic about ASUS Vivobook Pro and Zenbook Pro also, which seemed nice (with used price, but quite expensive as brand new)

Also looked at these options (desktops):

laptops will never compete with desktop for the price you pay.
so if u dont need a laptop, definitely always go with desktop.

Give you an idea on performance difference on CPU's
http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-7700K-vs-Intel-Core-i7-7700HQ/3647vsm211019
Intel CPU's with an U, HQ and HK is laptop processors, and CPU's without something after the numbers and K models are for desktops.

For GPU to compared
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/GPU16/1489
AMD currently don't really have much counterparts for higher end GPUs from nvidia like 1070, 1080 and 1080ti. Tho their Vega series is on the way.
a GTX 1060 is close to performance to an AMD rx480/rx580.

DDR4 ram will be used for intel cpu's 6xxx and 7xxx (skylake and kaby lake). While DDR3 is for older models like haswell series and older.
In laptops with intel cpu's ending with an U there will be used DDR3L (low voltage version of DDR3)

AMD been doing quite good on the newely released CPU serie Ryzen. They are great value and perfect for workstation PC's.
But if you gave us an budget and a summery of what programs/games you will be using on system we will be able to give you an good idea on what to get.

RAM manufacturer doesn't really matter, but i do recommend G.Skill, Corsair, Kingston and Crucial. And for regular 2.5" SSD I recommend Crucial Mx300 and Samsung 850 evo. There are some cheaper ones out there if the budget is to low.
