Any brother laser works, just bought a Brother DCP-L2540DW myself.

what is the main difference between laser and inkjet? I know literally nothing about printers.

For the better printers, laser is more expensive up front. Laser prints faster too. Inkjet is more versatile (can print on practically anything)
Found that laser printer toner cartridges tend to last longer than inkjet ink cartridges.

Also laser is better for non colour, inkjet is better for colour.

Ink jets dry out after time once opened, ink can be expensive based on cartridge types.
Other uses dry ink that lasts much longer and is cheaper in the long run usually.

I went with low end work horse style just monochrome.

Are Brother good? Literally never heard of them but all of the big tech stores carry a lot of them
