i guess bias lighting is like some light strips you put behind your tv or monitor, so when viewing in a dark room it makes the greys and blacks better, and can help reduce eye strain.

any1 use bias lighting? what are your thoughts on it?

I always thought the 'lightpack' and various products like them were pretty awesome looking, Would love to see them in person.

But could never justify the money for something that's kinda gimmicky.

wow just looked that up, i guess its around $100. looks cool, but also looks like it could get quite annoying at times with too much extra flickering

this video looks pretty awesome but yeah it seems a bit much at times

so im basically just interested in plain white lighting but maybe the auto dimming function seems nice from the "lightpack". i just dont like the sudden dimming and brightness, and the colors. just some simple slow dimmer

wow this is only $10.

20 color settings. and 5 brightness levels.

i think i might get this one. ill keep looking and such, but for just $10, this seems pretty good?

edit: it also looks like for the "lightpack" you need to be hooked up to a pc. i dont think it will work if i use the usb and connect it to my tv.
like i think it only works if the usb is plugged into a pc, and then the lights can be on my TV. but my TV and pc are sort of far away. i run a long hdmi cord from pc to TV. so i dont think the "lightpack" would work well, although it does look pretty cool

Never heard any hometheater hobbyist using one and to me it sounds more like a way to sell stuff you dont actually need. Usually people try to make their HT room as dark as possible and this thing gets to opposite direction. It may look cool, but imo it wont make your picture better.

its to reduce eyestrain especially if you are constantly watching in darkness all the time
btw you can see many do use bias lighting in many forums
I use to use mine all the time when I was a welder fulltime my eyes would dry out fast

a few places mentioned this, but here is one of them : https://www.howtogeek.com/213464/how-to-decrease-eye-fatigue-while-watching-tv-and-gaming-with-bias-lighting/

The Additional Benefits of Bias Lighting

If you still need some convincing that extends beyond saving your poor eyes from fatigue, then consider the benefits of bias lighting beyond simply relieving your eyes. In addition to warding off eye fatigue there are two great benefits. First, the additional indirect lighting provided by the bias lighting increases the contrast of the on-screen image.

Refer to the optical illusion image above to see the effect made apparent. The bar that stretches across the center of the image is one constant shade of gray (RGB: 142, 142, 142) but it appears to be lighter in on the dark side of the gradient and darker on the light side of the gradient. This illusion, known as the simultaneous contrast illusion, readily illustrates how our eyes perceive gray to be darker and richer when seen against a lighter background and more washed out when seen against a dark background. Illuminate the wall behind your screen and the same contrast illusion takes effect: the grays and blacks on your screen will appear richer and the contrast will seem stronger between them and the surrounding area.

Related to that previous trick, many people adjust the values for brightness and contrast to higher levels in order to get the intensity of color and black contrast they desire. If the environment you’re watching the screen in already helps boost the contrast and create a better looking image on the screen then you can turn the brightness back down. Not only will your eyes t
