So I'm looking at getting a windows tablet. What are some recommendations you guys have? Not looking to spend like 1k on a tablet but don't mind spending a few hundred on one.

I'm mostly going to be using it for some basic stuff. Mostly for having a laptop without needing a keyboard and mouse all the time but can if I want. I'd be also playing some super basic games like baldurs gate or shadowrun or dofus. So nothing extreme but strong enough to be able to run those games in desktop mode.

Would be great if I could sync it up to my windows 10 computer and have everything I have on that connected too (email, calendar, etc).

If you want to do more than just browse and watch videos then stick with a surface. Get a refurb surface pro 3 from the microsoft store if you don't like to buy from eBay or similar sites. Though you do get a year warranty if you buy from microsoft vs ~$100 savings.

Cool, the surface pro 3 was actually the one I was most interested in. Any idea how good the atom processors are? Is it worth the extra money to go up to an i5?

atoms are weak as fuck. they are basically p4's.
basic web browsing and shit is fine for a atom but they will have issues even with 1080p streams (least some do).
You would have to go i5 if you expect to game I think.

Surface Pro 3 and Surface 3 are different models so make sure to look at both to see which you actually want. If you need 4G LTE connectivity then you'll probably go surface 3.

If the cost difference isn't an issue and you don't need 4g lte, i'd go with the pro. Otherwise the surface 3 will suit your needs just fine.

Are you sure that processor will be able to handle the few games I'd like to play on the go as well? The atom seems pretty weak.

The atom in the surface 3 is on another level compared to the atoms that most are used to in android tablets or netbooks. Those games you want to play require much weaker processors (they can be played on P4 or worse) than the Atom x7-Z8700. You'll be fine. It can run far better games than those listed.

Only problem you might face is with baldur's gate and the opengl requirement. Not sure if you already know a workaround, but this is an issue for both models.

Fwiw, I am recommending the Pro as it is more powerful but the surface 3 is cheaper and more practical if that's the most you want to do with the device. Proprietary charger also sucks if you lose it or gets damaged.
