Hello guys,

My daughter fell over our pc and the pc basicly felt from the vertical position to the horizontal. Aftrr trying to start the pc as usual i get the error "Reset Port Error", the harddisk is not recognized by the computer.

I have tried the disk with other computers - same problem.

My only concern are the photos i had on that harddisk, over 40Gb family pictures.

Is there a way to save those photos or are all gone?

There are highly expensive professional recovery companies.

You can try the free program Recuva.

I just tried recuva, i cant boot anymore from the hard disk so i put a other one just to boot, installed recuva while i put also the broken hard disk instead of my dvd slot.

But windows does not recognize it and i can hear the harddisk making "tick tick" sounds

I tried also a Western Digital Lifeguard diagnostics program, it recognizes it as "ATA" with 0 mb :/

Any theoretical chance that someone can fix it?

"I've had a pretty good success rate with freezing drives to recover data from a dying/dead drive. Much simpler and cheaper then most other methods of data recovery.

Freezing the drive shrinks everything inside, sometimes freeing up stuck/seized/trapped components, or keeping an overheating component from shutting the drive down right away.

Stick the drive in a ziplock bag(to seal out moisture) in the freezer.

While it's freezing, set everything up to quickly transfer your files off the drive if it does work. After a couple hours in the freezer, plug the drive in and see what it does. It may only work for a few minutes, for hours, or weeks. Pull your data off as fast as you can, if it stops again, re-freeze it and start where you left off. I've frozen drives 3-4 times to get everything off."

The freezer trick will not help nor is it recommended anymore unless your dealing with OLD hardware.

/edit
Also you want to dbl bag anything you try the freezer trick on and removed as much air as possible form the bad.
Lastly this trick creates moisture inside the HDD so its a last resort trick, the risk these days are not worth it if the
data means fuck all to you.

Hum i've experienced an issue with an old ide drive before not so long.
The drive was taking power normally but could not let any pc to bypass post screen.
Also tried to connect it via an hdd dock and pc wasnt able to detect it.
But on the disk management of windows i was able to see the disk with the whole drive as unallocated space.
I just rewrote the mbr using a linux bootable usb tool and problem solved.
Dunno if that helps in ur situation tho

Only thing I know of is sending it off but that could cost 500+ dollars more than likely 1200
