someone i know just got a projector. it was $100.

its resolution is 854 x 540, which is basically 480p right?

you can clearly see the little pixels or squares or whatever, not sure if u really even call it pixels from a projector? but still, the quality is quite bad overall, but for $100 bucks its pretty good.

ive seen that native 1080p projectors are never sold for under $500. has any1 seen a good 1080p projector? what would be some differences between a projector for like $500 versus $1000? better colors? black levels are better? im pretty sure that a $500 projector in 1080p by benq had great reviews, the benq ht2050

idk, just looking for some basic info about projectors and such, if any1 has had a higher end projector.

also a cool thing is, alot of them come with 3d capabilities. even though i know that nearly every1 in CHD hates 3d lol. but i still think 3d can be cool.

just cause i am considering a nice 4k hdr tv, the ks8000, 65 inch for around $1200. or a nice projector, screen would cost around $100, and then id be interested in a projector that cost anywhere from $500 to $1000. but wondering what else i get for the extra few hundred bucks? its too bad i dont know anywhere i can look at projectors to compare. unlike TVs that are on display in stores

google has lots of info.
Projectors will never match a tv's colors and you also have to consider rooms lighting.

yea ive been searching a bit on google for articles and such. trying not to read more recent articles, since this type of technology probably changes quite alot over time. certain things are always going to be the same, but some things may change. like im looking to avoid articles written in 2012 lol.

i thought the colors can be quite nice on projectors, its just the black levels are not as good?

all colours/shades suffer, if they didn't people would not own t.v.'s

true. and with oled now a big thing, they are far superior to LED TVs in the are of black levels, and vibrant colors. although i believe some LED TVs are just about the same with contrast ratio. but OLED are still quite expensive. a 65 OLED is around double the cost of a nice 65inch LED. the main issue with OLED that ive heard is the image retention. if the same image is displayed for a few minutes, if may take around 10-15 seconds to fade away. i have not heard anything about permanent image burn in, but it is a concern. and OLED TVs dont get as bright as LED tvs.

idk im still quite lost on how a 1080p native resolution projector that cost $500 differs from a similar project that is $1000. they seem to have very very minimal benefit in picture quality?

projectors look great for movies as far as being immersive because of the HUGE screen size. but otherwise, the quality loss compared to a nice TV is a big turn off for me. playing video games would be cool with a huge screen, but i think my gameplay would suffer because i would play much worse in first person shooters. the large screen just makes it more difficult to focus on everything at once.

edit: so from what i see, there are LED and DLP projectors. The LED don't suffer from rainbow artifacts, but have less color saturation. The DLP can suffer from rainbow artifacts, but the colors are much more vibrant.

and as far as price goes from 500 to 1000 bucks, there just very minimal differences... cant find anything really explaining much of why its better or not. other than the $700 benq which seems to have a really good reputation, so its middle priced between this range

When buying projectors you're paying for the defuser, backlight, and display panel.

Basically there is a collector which shines a super bright backlight through the led display panel which is transparent. After you have another piece of glass which defuses the panels image out onto the wall (being sent through a focus glass first).

You will find projectors that have a higher lumen output to be more expensive.

Projectors are easy to make though. You can make a native 4k projector for about 350$

Not difficult at all, could walk u through it.
U pay for the marketing and research and development etc.
Plus the nice enclosure.

So long as u can solder and understand basic circuts.
