I want to use the computer for editing videos in iMovie. The videos are recorded using my GoPro HERO 5 in up to 4K resolution (usually record in 1080p though). My Macbook Pro from early 2011 can't handle these videos, not even playing them in VLC without problems.

I checked apples website and there are a lot of different options. What should I get? Don't want to spend more than necessary. Both laptop (eg Macbook) and desktop computer (eg iMac) is ok!

Thanks in advance :)

there is no good deal on their laptops/desktops..

theyre all overpriced with that stupid little Apple logo on it :)

spend half the price of a mac and build a PC and do the exact same thing with more POWER then you can imagine

If you are looking to do basic video editing (which is likely the case if you are using iMovie), a decent Windows or Linux box running Shotcut would work (and be a lot cheaper). The latest version of Shotcut supports 4K video.
