my little brother had stepped on my laptop and messed up my screen so i have to angle it correctly for screen to work
my little sister over charged my battery also aka left it plugged in while 100%, can that cause my hdd to fail?

Get CrystalDiskInfo here: http://crystalmark.info/download/index-e.html ...get the Portable (zip) version. Extract it to your Desktop and run the program.
At the top left it should say GOOD in the box.
If it does then the hard drive is OK.

Also might want to check how big your Page File is.

Also might want to check in the BIOS and see if the hard drive shows as 500GB in there.

/e It's hard to tell why the hard drive is reading wrong, especially after the laptop was stepped on.

If Windows has marked all but 75GB of your hard drive as unusable, then running chkdsk /r from a command prompt (opened as Admin) may just fix it.

CAUTION, is NOT a good thing. It's possible that the hard drive was damaged when the laptop was stepped on.

/e You only have a 80GB hard drive. If you Google the model number you will see that. Toshiba MK8046GSX

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIABZ053F9386

You may have had another hard drive in there that was larger, but apparently...it's dead, or came unplugged...if it was in there at all.
Another possibility is that you had an external hard drive.

Lots of things can go wrong with hard drive...but nothing...even stepping on the laptop, can't change it's model number.

/ee An 80GB hard drive should read 74.xxGB.

/eee See here is my CrystalDiskInfo. I have three hard drives and they all show at the top left...

My bad was up late thought it read 80gb and you saw 74, totally misse dthe 500gb part.
In any event thats what you do have. As for you saying its 500 it appears to be in fact a 80gb drive.

Simply not true :O
Windows shows Gibibyte instead of Gigabyte.
80gb = 75.5gib. Sure a few 100MB is reserved for system but not why it doesn't add up.
