It... is that time. My previous build has hit just over the 6 year mark and.... the gphx card has shat the bed. I won't be taking any parts from this build and most likely giving this computer to my little cousin as it's still a nice build given its age.

- This will be my super computer for the next 5 years.
- For storage I was thinking of only doing a 500gb solid state and I can always add additional storage later
- For Motherboard I have no preference
- For Video Card the best? Not sure?
- For the Case, I have no need for anything with lights/glass, but if it has why not... Something that allows good airflow sounds good and anything that helps with cable management is a bonus!
- For CPU I think I would like to keep consistent with previous builds and do Intel
- For Ram preference: 16gb (2x8) or 32gb
- For Expansion Cards / Networking I have no need.
- I don't overclock, but could see myself in a few years from now exploring that route.

The Intel 6800 or 6900 series CPU's would be better, however, they cost a bit more.

I think the 6900 given the price would be silly for me.
The 6800 I will consider the upgrade, but have a question: My guess is the main advantages of the 6800 is that you get more cores/threads/cache? Those are the things that stand out to me, a noobtard, but what does that mean in terms of performance when i'm using the machine - what results might i see. Or are those three things the wrong metrics i should look at?

Both of you guys went with a liquid cooler, i had to watch a video as this would be the first build I had for it. My understanding is that AIO coolers require no maintenance and that corsair will refund damaged parts if it leaks. (non user error) So that's less scary.

I think i will be going with the r5 for the case. I watched videos on both. I liked its aesthetics, preferred the usb options available at top, seemed more roomy cable management on the side -- this could be false sense i was using two videos as reference.

I don't know enough about watercoolers/motherboards to decide? Both probably dependent on case? I'll have to research more tomorrow on those components. You guys got additional thoughts?

There are a few on CHD that actually run the Intel Extreme processors.
I would wait to hear from them.

The extreme CPU'S are the 6-10cores with X chipsets.

I think he meant waiting for some advice from the people in here owning these. But I don't see why because it wouldn't fit the budget anyways.
7700k or RYZEN 1700 is the way to go.
