My problem:

Previously, my build was an ATX in a Corsair 540 case. I had a rock solid OC of 4.5GHz @ 1.225v. Then, I downsized to my Caselabs mATX case. In order to fit my CPU cooler, I had to remove 1 of the 2 120mm fans. Otherwise, the tubes had nowhere to go. The braided tubes are AIDS to work with in a cramped case. After switching, I noticed I had to up my voltage to 1.35v to keep stable at 4.5GHz.

Now... I just upgraded to an i7-6700k and am trying to overclock it. I started at 4.5GHz @ 1.35v. I went to run x264 and watched my temps (as per usual) for the first few minutes. Instantly up to ~82C. I haven't checked thermal paste, but my temps are super stable at ~35C idle. I've reapplied thermal paste a few times and am confident I used the correct amount. I see the same temps when benchmarking in CineBench and RealBench.

How can I get these temps down? No I am not changing my case. Do I need to get a Cryorig or Noctua air cooler to move air better through my case?

All ya can really do is try a different cooler. Maybe only one fan is not sufficient.
Might be the CPU itself. You bought it used, right?

Yeah I did... but I doubt it's THAT poorly binned. Guy said he managed 4.5GHz at 1.35v with OK temps on a Corsair H55 cooler. That's not exactly a great overclock so I'm not sure why'd he even say it if it wasn't true. lol

The only place I can -- to the top. This case is like 9"x10"x11". It's very small.

I cannot with the H100i V2. The braided tubes are extremely rigid compared to the one in post#1847 and also don't have fittings attached to the heatsink that allow them to rotate. The older models are able to move much more freely.

No and no. I tried a jillion times -- trust me. The bracket can only be in the position it is in, as it is longer on one side to allow it to go over the front intake fans. The rad is similarly longer on one side for the hoses. I have to match the 2 longer sides or it doesn't fit in any way.

While I'm asking dumb questions -- is there any reason why I can't give a constant 1.35v to my CPU and turn off C-States so it doesn't dynamically downclock the cores as long as my temps are dropping at idle as expected? I've been tinkering with OC settings and enabled the MSI "easy overclock" in BIOS. It forces a constant 1.35v and 4.4GHz while turning off power management.
