Long story short, my father's 10+ year old desktop went to shit, and it's time to upgrade. He only uses it for Web browsing and the occasional youtube video, nothing extensive.

Ideally I'd like to keep cost under 300.

Only need the tower, he has monitor and all peripherals.

I'd like it to come with an os, preferably win7.

I've been looking in the barging bins on newegg and Tiger direct but not sure if there's a tried and true model at this price point.

Any opinions are greatly welcomed. Will be purchasing this week.

E: as much as I hate them, a pre-built is fine for what he uses it for.

Consider raising your budget like 40$

Intel nuc i3

1x8gb sodimm ddr4 ram - 50$
120gb m.2 ssd - 55$

Edit: a celeron would be fine too

Just go to Best Buy and get him something. It's hard to beat Best Buy in that price range.
Make sure you buy their long term warranty as well. At that price range, it's not gonna be top of the line parts.

Thanks, I'll take a look at what they have also. He doesn't need much hd space at all, and I'd like to see 4gb ram in the rig so he's not yelling at it to boot the OS.

Yeah I just sorted by low price and tower only. You can sort further for the other things you want.

Have fun. :)

could always check dell and hp refurbs too on their site

i'd personally stay away from bestbuys overpriced warranty that will take weeks to months considering the price

Thanks for the insight. I have no issues getting some refurbished as he's just gonna putter on the net with it and not do anything taxing. If we get 5 years out of it I'd be thrilled.
