So I posted a couple days ago about how I was upgrading from my fx 6300 to the i5 2500k I think? Well, I decided to go the i7 2600k route. Found a mobo+i7 2600k used for $145 shipped. Well, that stuff came in the mail today and I just want to say.. holy crap the difference from the fx 6300 is insane. Works great with my RX 480 and my fps in games feel so much better.

Now, I just hope this used cpu and mobo hold up

2600k here on my second comp with the same 480 as you lel.

4.5ghz on a 140mm aio water cooler. I could get 4.3 on ait with a 212+. That comp is slaying 1080P 144:Hz

Why 2nd generation? The sockets are different for the fx 6300 and everything so I'm assuming you got a new motherboard too?
At that rate you should have at least gone for 3rd-4th gen...

Yeah, new mobo. I was just looking for something extremely budgeted that worked with my ddr3. The 3rd or 4th i7s ones were 45-55$ more on ebay, boards were about the same

Was going to just get a whole kaby lake or skylake thing but I'd be looking at 350$ (have to get ddr4), however I will need to upgrade to ddr4 eventually, so... but

I really was just going to wait for Ryzen but and honestly, I still am.. I just had a "buy some parts and build something" itch? Hard to explain and just wanted to upgrade from the fx 6300 to see how much of an improvement it was. I was not disappointed for this price :D

Lol you at 1080p as well? same here, how long do you think this i7 2600k will hold up? I was looking at benchmarks and it seems like it holds up perfectly fine when oc'd (10-20%) loss of performance compared to skylake/kaby which is fine for me. For now anyway, I'm thinking 1-2 years before it's worth a full upgrade? Maybe we'll see how RyZen does?

Depends on the game, and if you stay at 1080p u'll be fine. I'd OC that chip to at least 4.8, as it's one of the best chips for OCing. My 2500k is 4.9 on noctua air

Agreed!

Such an amazing chip bro. I love and still used my 2550k up until a year ago. Finally moved over to my 4930k so my dick looks bigger online.
