So i got ddos last night i clicked a link that was one letter off of the actual website... so they got my IP.

I tried alot of things to change the IP but since my internet provider is dynamic they say i have to turn off my modem for 24 hours to get a new ip.

Is there anything else i can do to make sure they cannot do it again? even if im using the same ip?

Also does changing the physical address do anything if your public ip is the same?

Shaft is just an idiot who took some IT classes and thinks he knows stuff about computers now.

There are a handful of ways to change your external IP. One of them is logging into your modem/router (depending on network setup) and releasing/renewing your IP. This sometimes works, but if not you will need to release it, click on a button that usually says "clone mac" and change the last octet and then renew. If either way fails and you are positive you have a dynamic IP then you need to unplug your network and wait for your lease time to elapse.

As for preventing this, you can't. Stop hanging around shady people. You can attempt to use a VPN and all that, but then your VPN will get attacked and you will either need to change endpoints or providers.

one could get a barraduca.... or use black holing since its only a residential network.
Though I guess it depends on just how sophisticated the attack is... chances are its a simple pay service and its weak.

but his best option is by far saying his modem no longer works and ask for a new one.

If your ISP is Verizon, you can change the lease time by unhooking your internet, then searching the registry for the word: Lease

...and editing each entry you find, to "a" (hex) or 10 (decimal), and then rebooting. Leave the internet unhooked for about 40 mins. Rehook the internet and you should have a new IP.
