Getting decent specs for the money. Yes, a desktop would be better but meh that argument doesn't fit everyone.

No laptop is going to hold up for long to any serious gaming requirements

Now, if you are OK with light gaming/lower side of graphics settings, an Asus Ultrabook with a GTX 960m isn't a bad idea, I have an older model with a 620m and it has been a great laptop, OK gaming machine, great for school, light, long battery, thin, nice fit and finish, etc

While I agree with the general sentiment, it's really going to depend on what he's trying to play. The 960m would likely hold him over for awhile as long as he's okay with lowering settings on newer games as time goes by.

Yes aware of desktops being far better just my work will have me away from my house for week long stints every so often just looking for a laptop that can run elder scrolls online WoW and most steam games pretty much

have you guys not seen the benchmarks on the pascal laptop gpu's (aka undervolted desktop GPU's) --

they are gonna release 1050ti and 1050 laptops soon (if they are alrdy not out yet) starting at ~799

i'd get one of those.
