Using Windows 7
I switched to an SSD successfully and now I want to use my old HDD for storage. Everything seemed ok except one thing: I can't access the subfolders inside the "Users" folder. I can access every other folder in the drive except that one. When I try to access it I get this message:

Obviously I pressed continue, but when I do, the computer pretends to endlessly load the folder. Even after an hour of loading the progress bar sits at 98%. I tried booting the disc and disabling passwords and enabling sharing, but I'm still getting the same thing. I'm currently booting from the SSD. How do I get into it?

TLDR: Can't get into "Users" subfolder in a HDD I added to computer.

Is there some reason you NEED to get into the old Users folder on the HDD that you want to use for storage?

/e Or are you having problems getting into the Users folder on the SSD?

It's a permissions issue, and if there's a ton of files/data in that folder, you're going to have to wait that out, as it has to take ownership of and assign permissions to every file and folder in that directory.

I just want to use it as a storage drive. There are some files I want to move around/delete, but I don't need anything in there. It's just the convenience of not having to move everything. I already got some of what I needed by booting from it and moving files out of the users folder actually.

Ah ok, will try this.

Boot from linux live disk. partition drive. format drive. move files you want to save to new partition. wipe other partition then extended existing one with files.

Sorry I didn't make it clear: the drive has files on it and I want to delete most/keep some of them. I can't access the "users" folder though.

Did you do a clean install on the SSD, or did you migrate from the HDD to the SSD?

I did a clean install a few weeks ago. I just need to keep files off the SSD and was about to buy an external when I realized I had the HDD just sitting there. I also want to migrate a few large batches of files not all of it. It's very slow at moving files, so I prefer to have it do the moving in the background while I'm on the SSD.

By booting from a linux live disk (usb/dvd/cd) your not bound by the "Windows permission issue" Then accessing said data is simple as moving it to another medium.

Reading up on it now. If waiting for permissions doesn't work out I'll try this out. Thanks for info.
