I own a 2D fighter games on PC and plan to buy more. I have always been frustrated by the 8-way D-pad on xbox360 controller (the only controller i have). So i want to buy a better one.

My natural inclination is ps3 or ps4 controller because i know they have decent D-pads. But i have concerns and questions. The only ps3 controllers i see for sale are on ebay so i'm not sure if they are legit. Why isn't anybody else selling them? And how compatible is the ps3 controller with PC.

I've heard the ps4 controller has a short usb cord, so would i need an extension? And what about compatibility on windows 10. Is there a single driver/software that will make a ps4 controller work natively with games that PC games that support controllers like the xbox360 controller?
Example games: Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, Soul Calibur, Fairy Bloom Freesia, Nitroplus Blasterz, etc

What do you use?

I'll be buying the thing online so i want to make sure i buy the right one. Buying consoles is not an option. I just need a controller for PC.

Xpadder works with ANY controller.

there are many fight sticks that work on pc

DS4Windows makes your PC think it's Xbox controller.

After it is setup it should work as well as a classic Xbox controller in terms of support.

Well to be honest, $50 seemed overpriced to me for a ps4 controller, but i'll buy it if there is no better options in that price range. I know there is $300+ things made for flying and racing but i dont want to spend that much. I really just need it for 2D fighting games. A 4-way d-pad and 4 buttons is what i'm looking for.
