So I just purchased an 850 evo, 250 gb, and I have a couple of questions:

1. When I use the data migration to clone my OS (windows 7 retail), what happens to my hard drive OS? Will it still be there? will I still be able to use both hard drives?
2. Can I use data migration on OEM windows 10? If so, same questions above.
3. My friend told me he just installed a free windows 10 onto his ssd when he got it awhile back rather than data migration, what's that about?
4. I bought 2 SSD's, can I clone the same OS from the HDD into both?

No, you can only have ONE copy of Windows 10 on your computer, at a time.
You can NOT clone your HDD, to the two SSDs and use them in different computer. Microsoft will know and make all but one copy of your Windows 10, invalid.

The data migration tool is simply to move your Windows 10 from your HDD to your SSD, for use in the computer the HDD is in at this time.

Your copy of Windows 10 is tied to the computer it is installed in now (namely to that computers motherboard).
On top of that, your Windows 10 install has the motherboard drivers for the computer you have the Windows 10 installed on, so copying to an SSD then putting the SSD in another comp that needs different drivers... is not wise.

Not true. can have 2 just can only boot one.
Correct but you could in theory use them on the same machine, just one at a time.

@op Answer to 4 is yes but only one will /can be active at a time.

That's what he said.

You can have 2 installs, but only boot one at a time.

Source: I used to have linux and windows dual boot on my hdds. You can probably do windows-windows dual boot with grub anyways.

You can do dual boot with Windows / Windows.

But unless OP gets another license, he can only have one activated at a time.

If one is only booted and connected to the internet at any given time how would they find out.

Think about that one.

Because every copy of Windows, needs to be activated. Especially true for Win 10.
