My portable hard drive isnt being recognized by my computer.
it was working perfectly than 1 day it just stopped.
It lights up when plugged in but comp cant find it.

it isnt in disk management either so I cant assign new letter etc.

Anyone have any ideas?
its only a year old and its a seagate 1tb.
Alternatively is there any way to get the info off the drive if I cant salvage it?

thnx :)

remove it from casing connect directly to pc.
does it work now? If so buy new casing.

Also if its still under warranty RMA it.

okay so I took it out of the casing and plugged it into my comp through power/sata cables and still nothing

a little more detail:
when I plug it in both ways it makes a large beep and if I plug it in before I turn on my comp, my comp won't start. I will have to turn off the pc, remove the hdd first, turn it on then plug in hdd.
Doesnt appear in disk management still. Sounds like it may be corrupted? the hdd I dont care for but I need the stuff on it. I have multiple hdds.

wtf did i just read.
you dont connect hd's when the pc is on unless you have a hot swap bay and the feature enabled.

Aside from high level data recovery options your fucked.
Maybe its the board but I can exactly guide you through that but you still need a new hd board.

its totally a option and should be the only option. the drives bad.
could be a bad IC/transitor/capacitor etc on logic board.
If its just the board on the hd then replace the board but that requires a tech to diagnose.

aside from that and spending tons for data recovery your shit out of luck.
I mean you could extract the platters and put then in another drive but this is a delicate procedure.
