I recently bought a intel 600p 256 gb ssd and put it into my M2. slot on my Asus z-97a motherboard. I'm not supertechsavvy but I realised i had to turn on M2.mode through Bios, which i did. I still can't see the drive in neither the bios nor disk management though, I do not plan to install windows on it, just use it as a storage drive. Does it matter which PCE slot i have my GPU installed in? i have it on the one furthest up, so the PCI 3.0 slot. https://inetimg.se/img/800x600/1902646_0.jpg
pic of the motherboard

Any help is appreciated, I did download the hotfix for windows 7 to find NVMe devices, problem is it didnt seem to work and in device manager it still just shows up as an unknown PCI-E device: https://gyazo.com/6dd8f683cd1ae8fe61812c9a7f6d3897

Assuming you've installed the M.2 in the lie-flat slot above the top x16 PCIe slot, not the x1 slot, right? You may need to update the chipset/SATA drivers from Intel to support that.

Looks like none of the Z97 boards are supported. May need to upgrade to a Z170 board.

I would call ASUS. Your motherboard supports: 1xM.2 socket 3 (for M Key type: 2260/2280 storage devices.

As the Intel site says... contact your motherboard manufacturer.

ASUS motherboard tech support: 812-282-2787

/e There are BIOS settings other than M.2 mode, that have to be set properly. Worth a check with ASUS.
