Today the fan on my 1 year old Asus STRIX 970 shit the bed. This now means every Asus product I have ever owned has failed.

When I first built my PC it was with an Asus Z97-A 3.1, after 5 days, when loading into the bios, it would freeze and I'd have to restart the PC and couldn't access the BIOS. Luckily it was within 15 days of buying it so I was able to return for a full refund at my local NCIX.

Next up, I bought an Asus STRIX 970, the ASIC was so low and the GPU was so bad, that it not only lacked the ability to overclock even the slightest bit, it actually couldn't even run stable at it's default speed and settings. I warrantied it through Newegg and got another one because I realized within their return period.

Now finally, a year later, my replacement STRIX 970 started overheating and shutting off, I find out one of the fans died.

I've noticed that Asus products generally have a lower build quality compared to MSI for example. The Z97-A felt super flimsy and had a really thin PCB compared to the Z97 Gaming 3 from MSI I bought after returning it. My STRIX 970 sags worse than any GPU I've ever seen, and it even has a backplate which is supposed to help reduce that. My buddy that has been looking at new laptops went out and checked out a few MSI laptops, a few days later he checked out an Asus ROG laptop and when he told me about it he said it felt really cheap in comparison, this is without me having told him my thoughts about Asus' build quality to bias him.

And to make it worse, I tried going on the Asus website to RMA this cocksucking 970 again and the only button I could find that resembled something where I could warranty my shit was one that said "Activate service package". My card is already registered from a year ago, I should be able to go in and click warranty this bitch and activate the process. No, instead it starts asking me for some "VIP contract code" so I'm like wtf, let's just call them. Some indian guy picks up the phone and he's speaking all quietly, I can barely hear or understand him. After 10 minutes of explaining how my fan died and my problems with the website and how I need this contract code, he tells me to look in the box for the GPU. Okay, I start looking, can't find shit. Then he finally tells me that it's for extended warranty. I got pretty cheesed and I'm like "dude I have a 3 year warranty on this thing how do I activate my warranty, my card is broken" and finally he tells me that their RMA system is down for fucking WEEKLY maintenance and to call back in 24-48 hours. WTF

Never buy Asus products, shit product, shit service.

Sorry to hear that :(

I've owned at least 4 asus mobos and 2 graphic cards, an Asus laptop and monitors. Not once any of them had a problem.

Maybe just bad luck or maybe you fuck them up during install?

To be honest, I've always found ASUS products to have solid build quality. Their RMA I've heard isn't terrible once you finally get it going. Although some people have reported them destroying hardware sent in for RMA and then denying the claim. Hard to know what to believe regarding that stuff. Their customer service I have heard horror stories about, though.

Maybe it is bad luck, maybe their products are just subpar, maybe a bit of each. All I know is I personally can never recommend them again. I want to like them but they pushed me away lol. Maybe if this new replacement 970 (if I ever end up getting it) is a beast I'll change my mind.

I've had pretty good luck. I had a hard drive fail like 10~ years ago. Other than that, I cant think of anything that failed on its own without me breaking it first

Think you just got bad luck. When my 980 strix died they sent me a new one pretty quickly.

I will give one thing to Asus most other companies dont do and thats a replaceable bios chip on motherboard.
