Hey guys, I've been looking around but haven't been able to find anything.

I'm looking for a reasonably up-to-date guide on buying wireless USB and PCIE.

I'm looking at something that offers best bang for buck options on wifi adapter that offer stable and decent performance for not a ton of money.
I've used various USB dongles and cards in the past, but it would be nice to have a guide.

For a desktop? Just use powerline adapters tbh.

In this case its a desktop.
Well let me spin it this way, i own these:
https://www.amazon.com/Linksys-Wireless-Mini-Adapter-AE6000/dp/B00BWT1IFE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480536455&sr=8-1&keywords=ae%206000

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833704129&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

And in the same pc, the pcie is 17 Mbps versus 11 on the USB. I consider that a decent difference. yet there is no indication as to why its faster. (other than maybe different max rated speeds of 150/300)
I also have a cheap Belkin adapter and it performs significantly worse (about half) of the Linksys USB, yet they are both rated for 150 Mbps.

https://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WDN4800-Wireless-Express-Low-profile/dp/B007GMPZ0A/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1450282788&sr=8-1&keywords=pcie%20wireless%20card&linkCode=sl1&tag=bestforthemoney-20&linkId=ab20e3c50ba6d77c488894ddcf844dc1

This also tests the same speed as my 2 antennae adapter, despite being rated for higher speeds. So just asking how to pick the best adapter on paper or a guide that has all these tested speeds and their prices to help make a good decision because on paper none of these specs seem to matter and it's driving me a little cray.

Powerline is a good idea but I am looking for non-powerline solutions right now :)

My bro has that TP-Link adapter you linked and he pretty much gets our full rated speed of ~250 mbps through it. you gotta be using the 5Ghz band to get those speeds

USB devices are limited to the transfer speed of the USB bus. If you are using 2.0 you will get slower speeds than PCIE and slower speeds than a 3.0 compliant device.

Most peoples net/network are slower than USB 2.0 can handle though.

Depends on the USB controller. Even though USB 2.0 has a theoretical transfer rate of 480mbps you will likely never see that speed reached in real working conditions. On a gigabit network it really shows.

Most people still run 100mbit though :P
