Formatted and reinstalled windows on my old hard drive - ok
Add ssd and installed windows on that - ok
Windows starts and asks which volume I want to boot from, that means it sees both installations right?
Remove old hard drive and boot straight from ssd - won't boot, gives error

Any ideas? Don't want to pay Microsoft for a new key

Take the hard drive out of the computer.

Put the SSD in the computer, install Windows on it. Then format the hard drive and use for storage.

delete all illegal stuff on your SSD and do a RMA with the manufacturer
