Gaming at 1440P

I'm rolling it with a 1080 and I'll sometimes notice sudden frame drop and stutter in cpu intensive titles like GTA 5 and starcraft 2. And it seems to be pegged at 100% in plenty of other games so i can't help but feel like it's holding back some precious frames from me.

Normally I wouldn't upgrade a single generations because the IPC gains are only going to be like 5%. But since my motherboard would support it. I feel like the hyperthreading would help immensly in a few titles.

I have the 6600k at 4.5ghz now btw

Do those games make use of hyperthreading? I was under the impression very few games do.

Very few do right now. You're right.

GTA 5 is one of them that shows a pretty hefty improvement. It also happens to be one I play quite often.

Most other games it probably won't do shit.

Games are starting to move towards being able to utilize more cpu cores, Especially with Dx12 starting to pop up in games. Which allows devs to use more cores / gpu's easier / more efficiently.

this

6600k w/ 1080 getting frame drops in sc2/gtaV isn't because you got an i5 instead of i7.
