OK I forgot to bold/red title last thread so pretend that one doesn't exist and move to this one.

So I'm making this post maybe to inspire the kids or maybe there's a few out there who are wanting to learn about server hardware/software.
Anyway I'll post pics of my rack and servers and if you have anything server related, then post it here too.

Here's my current setup, I'll be posting specs and some more pics of internals later:

Sure does, as long as it's providing some sort of service to you then I'd say it's a server.

Curious to know how much did it cost to build your rack?

And I assume you make something monthly off the servers?

I think so far I've spent like around $800+ for everything + there's the energy cost for running it 24/7 .
I don't make anything off of it. It's mostly just a hobby for me and learning new things career related. I enjoy hardware and I like software too so having a server let's me play around with both of those things.

Fair enough. network attached storage in there too?

And curious how you got it for that cheap unless those are old models from a company hand me down

Browsing govdeals and craigslist.
2 of those servers are hella old, I got those for free and theyre basically paperweight right now.
Another 2 have Xeons with DDR3 ram, 1366 socket, so not that bad.
The last 2 are DDR2 and Operton but they still work for hosting things that don't need intensive processing.

For storage I'm using that 12 drive server to host an NFS share. And the other servers are connected over 2 x 1GbE to it for storing OS's.

1366 is back in the days of the original 920 and i7s correct?

Any UPS connected to it?
