Yes, its energy saving features. Load line calibration also has an effect but shouldn't be tweaked unless if you're overclocking.

For default settings, that sounds pretty damn high to me. I was recommending the skylake thread on oc.net and apparently 1.45 is the highest you want to go when overclocking so 1.4 when not overclocked sounds pretty high

Do you have any overclocking software running on your pc? Is there some kind of automatic overclocking done through your motherboard maybe?

Default for your cpu is supposed to be around 1.2v

...

no man, turbo shouldn't be taking his cpu all the way to that voltage. turbo doesn't automatically overclock your cpu, it just means that some cores can boost up to the "turbo" frequency. Differentiated from the "base" frequency which is the frequency that all cores will simultaneously run at.

Turbo considered, his cpu shouldn't really be going far beyond 1.2v at stock settings. Assuming he is running at stock clocks, if he just manually set his voltage to 1.2v his cpu would still "turbo boost" the same way and everything would function as before, just at the proper, lower voltage.

I mean, for a boost to work it would have to up the voltage. Otherwise, the clock it boosts to might not have enough power and could crash. That does seem a bit high, though.

Thats exactly what boost is for, it only raises one or two cores cause its able to do it and be stable at the same voltage lol

Otherwise theyd just advertise a higher base frequency and not even mention turbo lol

His voltage is most definitely too high. ~1.2 is stock voltage for a 6700k under full load and boosting, a quick google search will reveal this

my point is its still an over clock.
I'm just pointing out a flaw in your statement to be "THAT GUY"

So how do I turn off turbo boost, or manually change my voltage

Also when I bought this computer the bios wasn't updated, do I need to do that? If so how

you turn it off in the bios
as for updating go to the support page on the manufacturer website for your mobo.
