In the picture below the main program is wordpad and above it are all the recent wordpad documents
for sake of simplicity I want to have multiple wordpad documents on the taskbar and not have them under 1 heading.
any way to do this?
when I have tried it just puts them right back under wordpad again.

Well, sandybox would perhaps do this

Some fix in regedit should be viable option aswell. Might make it apps though.

Google it

I have used the googles and found this
http://www.howtogeek.com/66670/from-the-tips-box-pin-any-file-to-the-taskbar/
not really an ideal solution and it doesn't seem I can update the icon. would probably end up doing this on multiple computers so if anyone knows of a better way would appreciate it.

This isn't for me personally this is for my work. Apparently it used to work.. I guess I don't recall ever having an issue with it previously.
People want there icons on the taskbar so instead of listening to them complain just seeing if anyone knew of a quick fix to make it work.

unfortunately not what I am looking for.
easy way to replicate what I want to do. make a new text file with a name and some text. then try to add that to your taskbar. you will see that if you click that icon it doesn't open the text file you created but a new text document. I want it to directly launch the newly created document.
if you right click the icon on the taskbar it shows notepad as the parent and the text file as a child basically.

That was my second comment in the thread. haha.
I was just hoping for something easier for doing it on a large scale. It seems like a windows update caused this.. not sure which one or if I am just imagining it. Computer the users have now have the icons pinned, but when I replace them using computers also using windows 7 pro 64bit I have the issue.

might just be one of the things they have to learn to deal with.

thanks for the effort guys! another thing microsoft tried to fix that didn't need fixing.
