im using a gtx 970 and trying to connect it to my tv using an hdmi -> hdmi cable. is it normal for my pc to not detect any sound output for my tv with this setup?

i used to connect from my gpu via DVI -> Hdmi and have it detect my tv as a sound output, however after installing a new nvidia driver my secondary dvi output no longer works. (i tried connecting my primary monitor to it and it didn't detect it)

so yeah anyway i'm trying to either:

1) fix my dvi output on my video card

or 2) figure out how to get sound from an hdmi -> hdmi set up

if i'm missing any information let me know and ill try to provide it

1. Make sure the driver is installed properly.
2. Make sure you have Nvidia control panel set to multiple displays.
3. Make sure you set up the audio properly.

DDU Instructions - Nvidia
1. Get this program, here: http://www.wagnardmobile.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=144 ...from the "Official Download Here" link, and save it to your desktop.
2. Get your vid card driver here, use the Manual Search: http://www.geforce.com/drivers ...save this to your desktop.
3. Run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) choose the "Highly Recommend Option", and just do what it tells you. If it wants to go into "Safe Mode", let it.
4. After it's done and comp has rebooted to normal mode, just double click the Nvidia driver to install. If it want's to reboot, let it.

Here is a pic I use to remind myself, of the audio settings...

/e The audio setup in the pic, gives me audio on the TV for w/e I'm showing on the TV, and audio on the speakers for w/e I have on the monitor.
I also use HDMI > HDMI for the TV, and DVI to DVI for the monitor.

1. How would I go about making sure it's installed properly? What should I do to check it?

2. I think it's already set to multiple displays because if I connect using my hdmi output it picks it up fine. Also, my monitor was connected to my primary output on my gpu and it was working fine. Then I disconnected it from the primary output and tried it on the secondary output and it did not detect my monitor.

3. When my tv is connected to th hdmi output on my gpu, In the sounds window, the playback tab, my tv is not an option on the list like it used to be when I was connected to my dvi output. I do have "show disabled devices" checked already too

I added the How to install properly.

As for checking if you have multiple displays setup...it should look like this...

As for #3...I don't know what you are trying to display on the TV. I use the TV for movies that I have on the hard drive.

Alright I'll check the drivers tomorrow when I wake up as I am in bed now

The multiple displays thing yeah it looks like that when I connect my tv via hdmi-hdmi
However it does not detect anything that is plugged into the bottom dvi output on my video card

Well yeah sure I'd like to watch movies on my tv as well with sound coming out of my tvs speakers, however when I connect my tv to my hdmi port, the tv is not one of the options in my playback menu. Meaning it's not detecting it (I think)

As for your vid card, there isn't much I can suggest, without knowing exactly which vid card you have.... make/model. (Link would be best)

That's why you have to set VLC media player like I have it set in the pic above. The TV will only be accessible in your playback menu, when VLC media player is set up properly.

/e Btw, the DELL is #2 and is set to my primary display. The TV is #1, in Nvidia Control Panel.
