i have been getting intermittent lag for ALL my games (e.g. 15 minutes of smooth game play followed by 2-3 seconds of disruptive lag where i can see everything and everyone move around me, but i myself cannot move or take action in multiplayer online games) it is not a frame rate lag, the game itself runs very smooth

i just swapped out my comcast gateway (modem/router all in one combo box) for a new one and lag didn't fix

i tried port forwarding, disabling all firewall, still didn't fix

turned off all of my other devices connections, still did not fix

reinstalled network driver on my desktop, still did not fix

by the way, my desktop uses ethernet cable to connect, and i have tried 5 different ethernet cables and still did not fix

wondering if getting a separate router such as ASUS dark knight https://www.amazon.com/RT-AC66U-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC1750-Gigabit-Router/dp/B008ABOJKS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1474746959&sr=8-2&keywords=asus+dark+knight
will fix this issue? or if there's another possible solution that I can try?

already contacted my ISP about 13 times, and had a technician come in person to inspect things twice, they couldn't find ANYTHING.

Already told you in your other thread to do that. The ASUS router is fine, too. Bridge the modem, get a new router.

wanted to get second opinions before i drop 100 dollars into this

did some google search and some people are saying that the router thing is mainly for wi fi and claims that there won't be much improvements to wired connections

I can tell you from extensive experience, Comcast's gateways are some of the biggest pieces of shit on the market. It's not just "wifi", or bandwidth. Their firmware is extremely hamstrung, and blocks or poorly handles a lot of types of communication, like Bonjour and Multicast, for example.

so if i buy the new router, the built-in router on comcast gateway will be effectively disabled or inactive? sorry for noob questions, i really am new to this

Yes, if you put the gateway into bridge mode, it effectively turns it into a cable modem, with no routing or wireless capability (which will also get rid of that stupid Xfinitywifi that anyone with a Comcast account can log into and piggyback off of).

Ive had this exact issue in the past in Heroes of Newerth and league. after months of trying stuff to fix it I realized that it'd only happen when any pc in my house had a torrent program open
