Hi folks,

I have a ~2-3 year old Lenovo Thinkpad Edge (or Helix, cant remember), with 256 gb ssd. It is full of data and less then 1 gb are free.
2 days ago it automaticly updated, and got stuck probably since not enough free disc space was avaliable.
Now I cannot start it, the screen just "lights up black", or gets me into system recovery options where I can either reset pc to origin with keeping all my data or loosing it all. When I choose to keep my data, which I really do need to keep, it says for a reset there is not enough free disk space and that I should delete some stuff. I cannot do that since I cannot start the laptop...

I do not have a backup, here some hardware specs:
Windows 10
8gb ddr3 ram
quad core i7
256gb ssd
11 inch touch screen
for any further details i can research the exact model

please help me,
best regards
sindri

You can use Hirens Boot CD to load into mini windows xp. From there you should be able to attach an external storage media, such as a flash drive, and move some of the files off of the drive. Alternatively if you have a secondary system or can get access to one you can just install the drive, making sure to boot from the already installed HDD, and perform the same steps.

After that is done you can try to boot from the drive in the original system but may encounter some issues. I'd most likely load up disc with whatever version of windows you have and try to repair it if you can't get it to boot into windows.

just make a bootable dvd or usb of sirens or any linus distro and just drag your files over to another media device.

go to best buy and snag a hdd/ssd cloner/reader then plug the ssd in there and remove all the data, after this is complete if you have windows 10 on the pc already, do you have a usb drive with windows 10 on it? or DVD? if so from here I would reformat the ssd and start it fresh and readd the content you removed before adding the new os.

or partition the drive in linux and move files to the partition so your not buying another drive.

yep, if you have another pc just try to make a usb zip drive for your pc, you don't need a cd/dvd drive for this process and tbh USB is 10x faster anyways when reinstalling a OS + less room to store it when done, I bought a cloner/reader mostly because I do this on a large scale for many people it just makes it easier to clear the drive on the important files, then using a drive I reinstall the OS deleting everything else (that's not needed) off. This way you get a fresh install with no broken packets and most current windows updates. You can create other partitens as well like some recommend, I just find it easier to use a drive to reinstalling, and most the time the content that I have stored on my pc I can delete without worry, (this is because I use the same reader with older harddrives to store all my back-up to, and external.) I just redirect my path to always save off of my OS SSD/HDD

google how to make one of windows 10, Microsoft has detailed instructions on how to do this!

OR if using window 10 where Cortona/search bar type in recovery it should pop the settings up on how to create a usb ISO to reformat your OS. PM me for more info

Single stack HDD/SSD reader (I use this one to pull my information off, it reads all bad HDD drives)
