Could a missing or damaged pin in the cpu socket cause a computer to crash while playing games? a similar crash to overheating, where his computer shuts off completely.

my friend built a computer a few months back and while playing he would frequently crash, he never checked the temps and was using a stock cooler, i5 6500 iirc.
i thought he was just overheating and told him to monitor the temps, but he never did then his computer stopped working. thought he fried the cpu, then he rma'd the motherboard

when he got it back it had the same problem, but we found a missing pin in the cpu socket, do you guys think this was the problem all along or do you think it happened during the rma?

If he RMA'd the motherboard to the manufacturer, they would have found a missing pin.
Unless they are severely negligent.

Like I said, if you RMA'd to the manufacturer, they should have noticed.
Call with the ticket number, and ask....wtf?

That part in the middle doesn't look that good either.

looks like ur friend fucked up, and tried to RMA it and got denied or sth.
highly doubt any manufacture company's ship mobos back in a paper brown bag to cause that much damage.

could this have happened from overheating? what would cause this?

his computer was working before, and he only removed the processor to send back the motherboard after it stopped working
