I recently built 2 computer, almost identical.

i7 6700 with fan/heatsink

one comp has idle temps of around 32c

the other has idle temps around 45-51

Its mounted correctly and proper use of thermal paste.

Any suggestions?

Asus z170e
i7 6700 non oc

I was thinking maybe volatages? id have to check in bios

45-51 idle seems a little high for i7 correct? or no?

"Almost Identical" leaves a lot of room for temp differences.

Same cases? Same location in room? Same case fans...etc etc etc.

/e Do this for each comp...

Get SPECCY here: http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download
...get the FREE version from the: Piriform Link
...Speccy is a really nice system hardware/temperature, information Utility.
...simply install it...and run the program...then post a screen shot of the main page of the program, when posting a problem/question on these forums.

both cases were tested while open, so case isnt really an issue.

Well then it's gotta be the thermal compound.

/e In the BIOS there is a setting for the CPU fan speed...that could be different.

Yes, the CPU voltage could be different, but that's unusual.

Ive messed with cpu fan, best temps i can get is 45c.

Do you think temps this high idle are bad? obviously they go a little over 70-80c when gaming or wahtever.

I just dont know why the temps differ so much between the 2 comps

When you get home...check in the BIOS for the CPU fan speed control...disable them on both motherboards.
Disabled, means the CPU fan runs at 100%.

/e And I don't know why ppl post comp problems, when they are at work, and can't check anything. :)
