Been reading up on BCLK'ing my i3 6100, I've never overclocked anything before, and I don't want to mess anything up.

Is it worth doing?
Is it hard on the processor?
Does it shorten the life of the processor? (Will be upgrading eventually anyway)
What kind of performance boost am I looking at?
What % OC would be considered "safe"?

Yes it's worth doing.
Anything is technically hard on your processor.
Yes if you're over volting the hell out of it.
10-15%
Just dont go past 1.4 vcore.

To answer your question frank.

Start at a base voltage of 1.275 or around that range and keep going up until unstable via stress testing.

Is that the only thing you change is voltage?
I'm reading that I need to roll my BIOS back to a previous date to allow me to do it?

No

Change the core frequency (easiest way of overclocking for a noob) and the voltage.

Or if you want more advanced change the multiplier (this will change ram speed)

Yeah well FUCK IT.

Start with with I stated a few posts ago and start trying.

I'd try for 4.3-4.4 at 1.275 volts to start off

I think he can only change the Bclck...the frequency. He can't change the multi on the 6100, I don't think.
