You can only use the RAM your motherboard supports. That said...

DDR2 is pretty much gone.

DDR3 is kind of on the way out.

DDR4 is the RAM to get, if motherboard supports it.


/e I'd say most computers are using DDR3 RAM right now. In about two years, I'd say most comps will be running DDR4.

Yep, people with an 2-5th gen i7 who suddenly start using them as a editing PC and need more than 4gb of ram. Will just buy an additional kit of ddr3 rather than Buy a brand new Sky/Kaby lake PC
